KAGERA: THE Police force, in collaboration with the Immigration Department, has arrested 76 foreigners for entering the country without following the required immigration procedures.
Kagera Regional Police Commander, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SACP) Blasius Chatanda, said the arrests stem from intensified border surveillance mounted after unrest reported during the October 29 General Election.
“The Police Force, together with the Immigration Department, continues to conduct strict surveillance along border areas. In the process, about 76 foreigners including 73 Burundians and three Rwandese were rounded up between Monday and Tuesday this week for entering the country illegally.
The operation was carried out along the Nyakahura–Lusahunga–Nyakanazi road,” he said.
Kagera Region hosts several entry points, including Murusagamba, Kabanga and Rusumo in Ngara District, Murongo and Kaisho in Karagwe District, Mutukula, Kanyigo, Kashenye and Kyaka in Missenyi District; as well as Bugabo and Rubafu in Bukoba District Council.
RPC Chatanda urged citizens to remain patriotic and safeguard national peace by reporting any foreigners who enter the country without adhering to immigration laws.
He further called on the public to reject actions or statements that may threaten national stability.
The RPC stressed that the government does not restrict participation in political gatherings but encourages citizens to critically evaluate whether the rhetoric being promoted aligns with the values of peace upheld by the nation’s founding leaders.
He added that some recent incidents aimed at tarnishing the government’s image and urged Tanzanians to reflect carefully before supporting those behind such actions.
