DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzanian government continues to push for clean energy with the target to ensure 80 percent of its citizens use it by 2034.

The Deputy Minister in the Vice President’s Office (Union and Environment), Dr. Festo Dugange, unveiled the target during his first visit to the National Environment Management Council (NEMC), where he addressed the Council’s staff and issued specific directives aimed at strengthening environmental management in the country.

 According to the Deputy Minister, the initiative will benefit communities by reducing air pollution, protecting the environment, and lowering the cost of living.

He stressed that every NEMC staff member has a responsibility to raise community awareness and ensure full enforcement of environmental laws.

During the discussion, Dr. Dugange also spoke about the National Development Vision 2050, which focuses on three key pillars, including Environmental Conservation and Climate Change Resilience.

He elaborated on the link between a safe environment, improved health, and the reduction of non-communicable diseases.

For her part, NEMC Board Chairperson Eng. Mwanasha Tumbo pledged to oversee the implementation of all directives issued.

Meanwhile, NEMC Director General Dr. Immaculate Sware Semesi acknowledged the directives and promised to implement them in accordance with the law to ensure robust environmental management in the country.
