DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA and Algeria have jointly celebrated 71 years since Algeria’s revolution and 61 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations, highlighting decades of strong cooperation in development, trade, and education.
The event, organized by the Algerian Embassy in Tanzania, brought together senior government officials, retired leaders, and members of the diplomatic community.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Dr Ngwaru Maghembe, represented the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, at the ceremony held in Dar es Salaam.
Speaking at the event, Dr Maghembe commended Algeria for its remarkable achievements over 71 years of independence and for fostering 61 years of strong diplomatic ties with Tanzania. He described the partnership as rooted in mutual respect, historic solidarity, and friendship.
“For 71 years, Algeria has built a stable and resilient economy, excelling in sectors such as oil production, pharmaceuticals, electricity, education, and healthcare,” Dr Maghembe said.
He also praised Algeria’s historic role in Africa’s liberation movements, noting its support during struggles for independence across the continent.
Dr Maghembe reaffirmed Tanzania’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation in investment, trade, education, health, and energy, aimed at benefiting citizens of both countries.
Algerian Ambassador to Tanzania, Mr. Ghalib Zermane, reiterated his country’s commitment to deepening ties, emphasizing that the historic partnership continues to grow rapidly.
“Algeria will continue to collaborate with Tanzania in trade, investment, and development. Strengthening these areas is vital to grow our economies and expand opportunities for our people,” Ambassador Zermane said.

Diplomatic relations between Tanzania and Algeria were officially established in 1964, shortly after Tanzania gained independence.
Since then, the two countries have steadily reinforced cooperation through education programs, training initiatives, investments, and political and economic collaboration.
The celebrations reaffirm the long-standing friendship between Tanzania and Algeria and reflect Tanzania’s broader commitment to nurturing strong partnerships across Africa and the world.
