DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA and the diplomatic corps accredited to the country have reaffirmed their continuous commitment to deepening cooperation and strengthening the bonds of mutual partnership.

Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo told reporters yesterday that the mutual commitment demonstrates the country’s maturity in diplomacy and strong ties with its development partners.

The Minister was speaking shortly after his meeting with the diplomats in Dar Es Salaam.

Ambassador Kombo convened with the ambassadors for the first time after the October 2025, General Election.

According to the Minister, during the meeting, he assured the ambassadors and high commissioners of Tanzania’s continued cooperation with their respective countries and organisations they represent.

He also briefed the Ambassadors on the overall conduct of the elections and other events that occurred on October 29, 2025.

Despite the unrest that took place, the Minister informed the diplomats of the steps taken thereafter, including restoring peace and normalcy, ensuring the safety of people, their properties and safeguarding the continuity of public services and economic activities.

Ambassador Kombo further explained the establishment of a Commission of Inquiry by President Samia Suluhu Hassan to investigate the causes of those events and to propose appropriate measures to strengthen systems and prevent similar incidents in the future.

“Tanzania has gone through an unprecedented and difficult period. Despite these challenges, the government and the people of Tanzania are now focused on healing the nation and fostering unity, brotherhood and solidarity,” he said.

Mr Kombo said the government will ensure a thorough assessment is conducted and necessary measures are taken, including dialogue, accountability and institutional strengthening to prevent recurrence.

Regarding the European Union Parliament concerns, ambassador Kombo said Tanzania has followed its recent resolutions.

He said the government has instructed the Ambassador of Tanzania in Brussels to continue diplomatic consultations with institutions of the European Union and other relevant stakeholders, with a view to continue strengthening cooperation and advancing shared interests in peace, stability and partnership.

The Minster added that Tanzania is aware that various stakeholders have been issuing statements concerning the situation, saying while many of the statements are well intentioned, they may inadvertently disrupt or distort the ongoing inquiry.

He said the government is urging stakeholders to restrain themselves and allow Tanzania the space to complete the investigation.

“We respect freedom of expression, but such freedom must operate within the bounds of responsibility,” he said.

The Minister assured that true to its longstanding tradition, Tanzania remains committed to constructive international cooperation aimed at mutual benefit, peace and development.
