DODOMA: THE Tanzanian government in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) have resolved to come up with a joint two-year work plan to strengthen health services in the country.

This was revealed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr Seif Shekalaghe in Dodoma during a working session that brought together experts from the Health Sector from the Ministry and the WHO.

Dr Shekalaghe said they need to have a work plan that is directly aligned with the National priorities.

“The plans include a five-year strategic plan and a budget for the fiscal year, to achieve nationally coordinated results,” said Dr Shekalaghe.

Dr Shekalaghe said Tanzania has had a long history of success in the health sector, so in new plans to improve health services in the country, it is advisable to follow the principles of leadership and performance that have built the country’s reputation in Africa.

 “Our history is proof that if we plan well, we need to do more and better.

For his part, WHO Resident Representative Dr Alex Gasasira said the joint plan must be country-led rather than externally imposed as the country has its own priorities in the health sector.
