KIGOMA: TANZANIA Trade Development Authority (TanTrade) is set to open a new office in Kigoma as part of a broader diversification strategy aimed at strengthening trade facilitation and expanding market access.

The move marks a significant step in enhancing the country’s presence in key border trade zones and improving services for traders operating across regional markets.

According to TanTrade’s Director General, Dr Latifa Khamis, Kigoma has been identified as a strategic location offering unique access to neighbouring markets in Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

“The new office will bring essential trade development services closer to border traders, enabling greater efficiency, improved supervision of major trade activities and increased economic growth,” said Dr Khamis over the weekend.

She noted that the opening of the Kigoma office, together with ongoing improvements in digital systems, marks a new direction for Tanzania’s trade landscape.

“These initiatives are designed to strengthen the business environment, expand access to accurate market information and support sustainable industrial growth.” she said.

“By positioning Tantrade officers closer to these border points, aims to strengthen support for traders, enhance service delivery and promote the growth of regional and national commerce,” she said.

The Minister for Industry and Trade, Ms Judith Kapinga, expressed strong support for the expansion and underscored the need for all institutions under the ministry to operate through integrated digital systems.

“We want anyone accessing these systems to receive consistent and verified information across all agencies.
