DODOMA: THE Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that a section of road was constructed below standard in the Makaravati area, Kongwa District, along the Dodoma–Gairo trunk road.
Responding to the reports, TANROADS emphasized that the road section in question is not part of the completed works but rather a trial section constructed in accordance with professional procedures prior to the commencement of full-scale road construction.
Speaking in Dodoma Region, the TANROADS Resident Engineer for Dodoma, Elisony Mweladzi, said the 300-metre-long section was deliberately built for testing purposes before the final asphalt layer is applied, a practice that is standard in road construction projects.
“Normally, before laying asphalt, a trial section is constructed. The contractor is allocated an area of approximately 300 metres for testing to ensure that all asphalt specifications meet the required standards,” said Engineer Elisony.

He added that after the section was tested by TANROADS laboratories, it was found not to meet the agreed standards. As a result, TANROADS issued a formal letter to the contractor implementing the project, instructing them to immediately rectify the identified shortcomings, including removing the section at the contractor’s own cost.
Engineer Elisony stressed that TANROADS will continue to closely supervise the contractor to ensure that road construction complies with the approved standards and safeguards value for public funds.
Meanwhile, Edward Njau, a representative of Kings Builders, the contractor executing the project, confirmed receipt of the letter from TANROADS regarding the required corrections and pledged to implement the directives without delay.
