MALAWI: THE Benjamin Mkapa Hospital (BMH) is organising an outreach camp for specialised medical services in Malawi.

Prio to the camp, which is scheduled for early next year, a team of medical specialists from the BMH visited hospitals in Malawi’s Southern, Central and Northern regions with a view to determine the need for specialised medical services in the neighbouring country.

Tanzania’s Embassy in Malawi coordinated a visit by a team of medical specialists from Dodoma based zonal hospital in a bid to boost the country’s medical tourism drive.

The team, led by BMH’s Chief Executive Officer Prof Abel Makubi, also sought to establish cooperation in various areas, including joint research initiatives.

According to a statement from the Embassy, the team held discussions with the Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Malawi, Dr Dan Namarika and both sides agreed a medical camp will be conducted in Malawi before the end of March 2026.

The statement also added that it was also agreed in the meeting that the Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Health, together with a number of doctors from Malawi, will visit Benjamin Mkapa Hospital in Dodoma to observe the progress made by the hospital and other local health facilities.

This initiative is part of efforts to promote medical tourism, which will pave the way for the signing of agreements to enable patients from Malawi to seek treatment in Tanzania.
