ZANZIBAR: SINGIDA Black Stars Assistant Coach David Ouma has emphasised the importance of respecting every opponent as his side continues its campaign in the ongoing Mapinduzi Cup tournament in Zanzibar.

Singida Black Stars made an impressive start to the competition with a convincing 3–1 victory over defending champions Mlandege in their opening match, played on Sunday night at the New Amaan Complex in Unguja, Zanzibar.

Speaking after the match, Ouma said his team is approaching the tournament with humility and tactical discipline, noting that they are preparing to face each opponent with a unique game plan as they push toward their objectives.

“As a team, the most important thing is to respect every opponent,” Ouma said.

“Every match requires a different approach. If we continue playing well, I believe even better things lie ahead for us in the near future.”

The victory was particularly significant for Singida Black Stars, who had suffered a 2–1 defeat to Mlandege in the final of the same tournament in 2023.Sunday’s win served as sweet revenge, ending a twoyear wait to settle that score.

Meanwhile , Mlandege Head Coach Hassan Ramadhan acknowledged his team’s strong performance in the first half but pointed to a penalty decision as the turning point that disrupted their momentum.

“We played well in the first half, but the penalty incident took us out of the game,” Ramadhan said.

He added that his side will now return to training as they prepare for their remaining fixtures in the tournament.
