DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA, is set to host the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, who will arrive in the country to chair the CAF Executive Committee Meeting scheduled for February 13, 2026, in Dar es Salaam.

Speaking to journalists in Dar es Salaam on February 9, 2026, the Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Paul Makonda, said preparations to receive the high-level delegation have been completed, with CAF officials expected to start arriving from February 10.

Makonda said the decision to hold the meeting in Dar es Salaam reflects the strong confidence Africa has in Tanzania, particularly in the sports sector and football development.

“This is good news for our nation. It is a great opportunity and clear evidence that Tanzania is a safe country with strong infrastructure and a growing contribution to sports development in Africa,” he said.

He added that CAF’s decision was largely influenced by the significant investments made by the Sixth Phase Government under President Samia Suluhu Hassan, especially in the construction and rehabilitation of sports infrastructure, including the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium.

According to Makonda, CAF leaders will have the opportunity to witness firsthand the progress Tanzania has made in sports infrastructure, which is expected to positively influence future decisions on hosting major continental and international tournaments.

“This visit is a major milestone for the sports sector. It brings technical support, strengthens cooperation, and ensures that CAF standards are fully met in our country,” he said.

Makonda noted that the CAF delegation will be received at the Julius Nyerere International Airport (Terminal 3) before proceeding to their hotels via upgraded main roads, demonstrating Tanzania’s readiness and respect for the high-profile guests.

He further said preparations are being coordinated with the Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, Albert Chalamila, to ensure the city meets the required standards befitting the country’s status.

Additionally, Makonda revealed that during discussions with CAF President Motsepe, the Tanzanian delegation delivered a special message from President Samia Suluhu Hassan, sent on January 16, 2026, acknowledging Motsepe’s significant contribution to the development of African football and the promotion of peace through sports.

Makonda said Tanzania has invested more than 1.76tri/- in the construction of new stadiums in Arusha, Dodoma, and Dar es Salaam, alongside supporting infrastructure around the facilities.

“President Samia has demonstrated strong commitment to ensuring Tanzania becomes one of Africa’s football powerhouses, and potentially a global force,” he emphasized.

According to Makonda, CAF’s decision to convene its Executive Committee meeting in Tanzania is a clear indication of effective sports diplomacy and growing trust from the African football community in the country.
