DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU) has called on ambitious women golfers nationwide to step up and compete for leadership positions, following the rescheduled date for its General Election.

In an announcement issued from Dar es Salaam over the weekend, the National Sports Council (NSC) confirmed that the TLGU elections, previously set for February 7, 2026, will now take place on February 21, 2026, in the city. The NSC’s Acting Public Relations and Communications Officer, Hannah Kassimoto clarified that the election date had undergone changes.

Initially scheduled for January 10, 2026, the elections were later postponed to February 7, before being moved to the new date in February.

This shift has extended the nomination period, and interested candidates now have until February 17, 2026 to submit their nomination forms. The forms are available for download from the NSC’s official website, www. bmt.go.tz, or can be collected directly from the NSC offices at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed on February 20, 2026, at the NSC offices. Available leadership roles include, President, Vice-President, Honorary Secretary, Honorary Treasurer, Competition Secretary and Handicap Secretary.

To apply, candidates must pay a non-refundable application fee of 50,000/- via the government’s payment system. Eligibility criteria include Tanzanian citizenship, a minimum age of 25 years, at least a secondary school education, and a minimum of two years’ experience in golf administration or related fields. Candidates must also have strong knowledge of golf rules and a history of involvement in the sport—whether as players, coaches, referees, officials, or club administrators.

All completed nomination forms, along with supporting documents, must be submitted by the stipulated deadline. As the election approaches, outgoing TLGU president Queen Siraki has encouraged all eligible women golfers to take an active role in the election process.

“We urge all women interested in leading the Union to participate fully in this important process,” Siraki said. The NSC echoed Siraki’s call, emphasising the importance of strong leadership in the ongoing growth of women’s golf in Tanzania. “Your participation in the elections is vital to strengthening the future of the sport,” they stated.

Elected officials will serve a 2026–2028 term, leading the Union through a dynamic new phase in Tanzanian women’s golf.
