DAR ES SALAAM: MORE than 60 women who have suffered from various challenges, including gender-based violence, are expected to be given free beauty training as a step to uplift and empower them economically.
Speaking during the launch of the beauty center in Dar es Salaam, the Director of the Institute for Women and Leadership, Shamira Mshangama, said that to achieve this, they have officially launched a Women’s Salon that will teach them hair, nail and make-up for free for a period of two years.

“We enable women to participate in decision-making and leadership positions, and today, we are launching a salon called the Women and Leadership Salon. Since 2017, when we started, we identified the challenges of violence that girls are going through, and the main reason is the lack of personal income, and in collaboration with our sponsor, Women First International Fund, we have started the project,” she said.
She said the project is called ‘A chance to a New Beginning ‘ where they will provide free training to learn beauty, the goal is to enable them to earn their own income and they provide employment in their office while the main beneficiaries are those who are experiencing gender challenges.
“We want to ensure that more girls get training. This will be a training center for girls to learn beauty, and the institution will generate income that will enable them to reach more girls through projects to uplift them economically.

She urged women to come forward in large numbers to use these affordable services, and also come forward to get free training.
For his part, an employee of the salon unit, Sauda Milidadi said Before coming here, I went through the challenge of raising her child alone so when she got training and work it helped her take care of herself and her child.
“I have one child, and I am raising it alone. I came here and got a job until now I am here. Many girls at work are difficult; let’s come together and fight to get our own income. Let’s come forward, the institution is very helpful, we will solve the challenge together,” she stressed.
