DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority (TIRA) has warned insurance service providers operating without renewed licences to immediately halt all insurance activities, stressing that unlicensed operations are illegal under the law.

TIRA stated that unlicensed providers are prohibited from registering or underwriting new policies, issuing or renewing insurance policies, advertising services, or conducting agency and brokerage activities.

In a statement, TIRA’s Manager for Public Relations and Communications, Ms Hadija Maulid, urged the public to verify the validity of insurers’ licences before entering into any insurance transaction.

“Members of the public can check licensed insurers and service providers on TIRA’s official website (www. tira.go.tz), via the TIRAMIS App using the registration number issued by TIRA, or by visiting the nearest TIRA office,” Ms Maulid said.

She also called on service providers to renew their licences promptly to operate legally and advised those facing challenges with renewal to contact TIRA for assistance.

The Authority further appealed to the public to report any insurance provider operating without a valid licence.

Under the Insurance Act, Cap 394, TIRA regulates and supervises all insurance activities in Tanzania, including registration and licensing, with the aim of ensuring sector stability and protecting policyholders’ rights.

All insurers are required to renew their licences annually to maintain their legal status.
