DODOMA: VICE-PRESIDENT Emmanuel Nchimbi has called on the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE) to intensify efforts to mobilise investment and innovate market strategies as the country pursues its ambitious goal of building a 1 trillion US Dollars (equivalent to 2.5tri/-) economy by 2050.
Dr Nchimbi made the remarks yesterday in Dodoma during a meeting with Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE) Chief Executive Officer, Mr Peter Nalitolela.

In the talks, the VicePresident said that capital markets have a critical role to play in channelling longterm capital toward productive sectors of the economy, which are vital for attracting investors and supporting economic transformation.
“Tanzania’s growth aspirations require robust financial markets that are efficient, transparent and attractive to both domestic and foreign investors,” Dr Nchimbi said.
He added, “The DSE should continue to deepen its market functions and create innovative products that meet the needs of investors and issuers alike.”
Dr Nchimbi urged executives and staff at DSE to pursue innovation in product development, adopt smart technologies, and push for investor education campaigns aimed at raising awareness of the benefits of investing through the bourse.
Mr Nalitolela responded by reaffirming the bourse’s commitment to partnering with the government in supporting the implementation of the National Development Vision 2050.
He said the DSE will focus on expanding its investor base and developing new instruments to broaden access to capital.
“We are committed to strengthening our cooperation with government and stakeholders to mobilise long-term finance that will support strategic sectors,” Mr Nalitolela said.
The DSE is a key institution in Tanzania’s financial system, enabling the mobilisation and management of long-term capital for financing development projects. It offers an official, regulated platform where shares, bonds and other financial instruments are traded under standards of transparency and good governance.
As of the latest data, the total market capitalisation of the DSE stands at 31.9tri/-, with about 779,000 registered investors participating in the exchange.
The DSE is also a member of international stock market associations and regional blocs including the East African Community (EAC) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC), strengthening its integration within regional and global capital markets.
