DAR ES SALAAM: GEITA Gold Mine Limited claims to have played a visible role in shaping the development of the gold mining sector in the Geita Region.

Marking its Silver Jubilee in Tanzania, Geita Gold Mining Limited (GGML), a subsidiary of AngloGold Ashanti, has helped shape how large-scale mining can be done responsibly in Tanzania, blending production with partnerships, skills development, and long-term community value in Geita.

The milestone was formally marked at a high-level gala in Dar es Salaam, The Kilimanjaro, bringing together government, private sector leaders, and stakeholders.

Speaking on behalf of the government, Dr Steven Kiruswa highlighted GGML as a practical example of how mining, when grounded in cooperation, can drive economic growth and shared progress.

Under the theme “Stori za Dhahabu” (Golden Stories), the celebration put people at the centre through a documentary and interactive storytelling that traced how mining investments translate into real lives changed.

From career growth inside the mine to local enterprise development, the stories showed that impact isn’t just measured in tonnes and projects, but in personal journeys and opportunities created over time.

Community investment stood out clearly: improved water access, better schools and health facilities, and sustained support to social institutions. One powerful example is a former beneficiary who recently graduated as a doctor from MUHAS, a reminder that after 25 years, GGML’s legacy is not only about gold, but about lasting, shared prosperity.
