DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA has witnessed a sharp rise in internet subscriptions to homes and offices via fibre-optic technologies, reflecting a growing trend toward network optimisation and improved user experience.

According to the December 2025 communications statistics released by Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) Director General, Dr Jabiri Bakari, modern homes and offices increasingly prefer fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) and fibre-to-the-office (FTTO) connections due to their superior reliability and speed.

The report shows that FTTH and FTTO subscriptions grew by 157 per cent in just two years, rising from 54,290 in March 2024 to 139,317 in December 2025.

FTTH connections increased by 150 per cent, from 49,164 to 123,052, while FTTO subscriptions surged 219 per cent, from 5,126 to 16,265.

Quarterly growth was also strong, with FTTH rising 16 per cent from 106,166 in September to 123,052 in December 2025 and FTTO increasing 4 per cent from 15,671 to 16,265 during the same period.

Fibre technologies provide seamless connectivity across multiple devices, making them ideal for high-speed data transfers, remote working, video conferencing and streaming large volumes of content.

Overall, internet subscriptions in Tanzania increased by 3.2 per cent between September and December 2025, reaching 58,106,264, up from 56,322,287.
