
DAR ES SALAAM: THE body of the retired Archbishop of the Dar es Salaam Archdiocese, Polycarp Cardinal Pengo, is scheduled to be buried on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at the Pugu Pilgrimage Centre, just outside Dar es Salaam.
According to a schedule released on Friday, February 20, 2026, by the Dar es Salaam Archdiocese, members of the public and faithful will have the opportunity to pay their last respects on Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at Pugu before the commencement of the farewell Mass.

Before the burial, Cardinal Pengo’s body will lie in state at St. Joseph’s Cathedral on Friday, February 27, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., allowing the faithful and the public to officially bid farewell before the body is transported to Pugu for the final ceremony.
Cardinal Pengo passed away on February 19, 2026, at the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute in Dar es Salaam while receiving medical treatment.
