MOSHI: PRIME Minister Mwigulu Nchemba has emphasized preparations for the implementation of a new education curriculum, set to be fully rolled out starting in 2028. The new curriculum will make education compulsory from Standard One to Form Four.
Under the new system, primary schools will have six grades while secondary schools will have four, totaling ten grades.
Dr Nchemba made the remarks today while speaking to residents of Mabogini in Moshi Rural District, Kilimanjaro Region, urging villages to allocate sufficient land for the construction of new classrooms and to expand existing facilities where necessary. He added that this approach would help avoid future costs of demolishing and rebuilding classrooms.
“The implementation of this curriculum will begin with a pilot in January 2027 in Standards Six and Seven before officially starting in 2028,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Dr Nchemba has ordered the KNCU Ltd Cooperative to settle debts owed to coffee farmers for the 2021/2022 season within one week. The directive follows complaints from 11 farmers from Msae Kinyamvuo Village, Mwika North Ward, Moshi District, who claimed their payments had been delayed.
The farmers told the Prime Minister that so far, they have only received 95m/- out of the initial debt of approximately 600m/-. KNCU Ltd Managing Director, Kimaro, acknowledged the debt and stated that the cooperative planned to pay in installments after finalizing agreements with the farmers.
However, the Prime Minister stressed that farmers’ rights cannot be delayed and instructed KNCU Ltd to use any legal means, including selling assets, to ensure that all payments are made within the specified timeframe.
