DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA and India have agreed to advance and strengthen their strategic cooperation to support the implementation of Tanzania’s National Development Vision 2050.

The Minister for Finance, Ambassador Khamis Mussa Omar, stated this during talks with the Indian Ambassador to Tanzania, Bishwadip Dey, who paid a courtesy visit at the Ministry of Finance’s Sub-Office in Dar es Salaam.

Speaking during the meeting, the minister said that as Tanzania implements Vision 2050, it is important to deepen strategic cooperation with India, especially at a time when diplomatic, social, and economic relations between the two countries continue to grow stronger.

According to the minister, the relationship between Tanzania and India is historic and built on a solid foundation of long-term cooperation, which has enabled the implementation of various development projects, including in the water and health sectors, directly benefiting citizens.

“Our relationship is longstanding and began even before formal diplomatic ties were established, when people from both sides traveled and traded across the Indian Ocean. Today, our cooperation spans diplomatic, economic, and social spheres,” he said.

Commenting on cooperation on the water sector, he said Tanzania has made significant progress through cooperation with India, with emerging challenges being addressed through close consultation and collaboration between the two countries.

In the education sector, Ambassador Omar highlighted that India has established a college in Zanzibar offering training in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (AI), as well as short- and long-term courses.

He added that the institution benefits not only Tanzanians but also students from other African countries, providing an important opportunity to enhance skills and technology development across the continent.

Furthermore, he said India continues to offer scholarships to Tanzanians, particularly in the health sector, where many professionals have received training in India to strengthen the delivery of healthcare services.
