BUKOBA: SEVERAL areas of Bukoba Municipality were submerged after heavy rains accompanied by strong winds pounded the area last Wednesday.

The downpour, which lasted nearly five hours, triggered flash floods that disrupted transport and communication, with reports indicating that property was swept away in several neighbourhoods.

Among the hardest-hit areas were Omukishenye, Kashabo in Hamugembe Ward, Shabridin, Kasarani in Bakoba Ward, Matopeni in Kashai Ward and parts of Bunena.

Following the incident, Bukoba Municipal Director Mr Jacob Nkwera urged residents to take precautionary measures, including maintaining and protecting drainage systems to ensure smooth water flow during heavy rains.

He confirmed that no fatalities were reported. Authorities are continuing to assess the extent of the damage caused by the floods.
