ZANZIBAR: THE Minister for Home Affairs, Mr Patrobas Katambi, has directed the Police Force to strengthen the Cybercrime Unit in tackling online fraud and immoral online activities that contravene national values and traditions.
He made the remarks at the weekend while addressing police officers of various ranks from three regions of Unguja at the Zanzibar Police Training College conference hall.
Katambi said that despite ongoing efforts to combat cyber fraud, many citizens continue to lose money through online scams. He instructed the Police Force to intensify preventive and enforcement measures.
“We must work to prevent and eliminate these crimes conducted through digital platforms, as citizens are losing their hard-earned money and such acts tarnish the image of our country,” he said.
He also ordered strict legal action against reckless drivers who violate traffic laws, describing the behaviour as a growing public nuisance.

On his part, Deputy Minister for Home Affairs, Ayoub Mohammed Mahmoud, commended the Police Force for its effective performance in maintaining peace and security.
He assured officers that the government recognises their vital role as the backbone of national stability and will continue improving their working conditions and welfare.
The meeting aimed to formally introduce the Minister and Deputy Minister to police officers under the Zanzibar Police Commission following their recent appointments.
