DAR ES SALAAM: THE police force has assured the public that it is closely monitoring individuals using social media platforms to incite people to engage in criminal activities, stressing that such conduct violates the country’s laws.
In a statement issued yesterday, the Police said they would not hesitate to take legal action against anyone involved in promoting or participating in unlawful acts.
According to the statement, some individuals behind the alleged incitement identify themselves online as ‘TFF,’ claiming they are undergoing training in the bush and have already carried out several criminal incidents.
The Police Force dismissed the claims as false and misleading. Authorities further noted that the individuals are circulating alarming messages intended to instil fear and panic among members of the public.
The Police said in the statement that monitoring and investigative operations are being conducted around the clock.
They urged citizens to remain calm and continue with their normal economic and social activities.
The statement also called on the public to ignore the messages, noting that the individuals behind them are not within the country’s borders.
It stressed that those promoting criminal acts would neither succeed in nor have the opportunity to carry out the activities they are advocating.

The public was reminded that such messages are designed to create division, fuel hatred and provoke citizens into engaging in violence and other criminal behaviour.
The Police Force reiterated its commitment to fulfilling its core mandate under the law, including working closely with communities to detect, prevent and combat crime efforts it said have helped maintain peace and stability in the country.
While describing the overall security situation as calm, the Police acknowledged that a few isolated incidents have occurred.
These cases are being handled accordingly, with several suspects arrested and arraigned in court. Regional Police Commanders, the statement added, will continue to provide updates through the media.
