DAR ES SALAAM: A DELEGATION of 20 Tanzanian small-scale miners has departed for Canada to participate in an international mining technology exhibition, in a move aimed at strengthening technical capacity and expanding global market linkages.
The trip has been supported with GF Trucks & Equipment, the authorised dealer of FAW heavy-duty trucks and XCMG machinery in Tanzania, in collaboration with the Federation of Miners Associations of Tanzania (Femata).
Industry stakeholders say improved access to technology remains one of the key constraints limiting productivity and competitiveness among small-scale miners, who account for a significant share of Tanzania’s mineral output.
Femata Secretary General Rogers Sezero said the exposure would help participants understand emerging global standards and improve operational efficiency.
“Access to modern technology and industry networks is essential if our miners are to increase output and supply reliable raw materials to both local and international markets,” he said during a send-off ceremony.
The initiative is being supported by GF Trucks & Equipment, which has partnered with small-scale miners through equipment supply and operator training programmes.

According to GF Marketing and Communications Director Salman Karmali, the company has over the years trained more than 1,000 drivers and machine operators from mining regions including Geita, Mwanza, Songwe and Lindi, as heavy machinery technology continues to evolve.

Chairperson of the delegation, Dr Bernard Joseph, said the exhibition would provide practical insights into modern mining methods and environmental compliance requirements.
The miners are also expected to explore equipment financing models and technological solutions that could enhance value addition, particularly for minerals used in electric vehicle battery production.
