MTWARA: THE management of Mtwara Port is exploring means to further upgrade its services in handling the ever-growing volume of cargo.

This was unveiled during the 39th meeting of the Mtwara Port Staff Council, seeking to improve the port infrastructure by strengthening berths, upgrading cargo storage facilities, and improving ICT infrastructure to simplify operational systems.

A statement from the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA), the meeting also discussed rehabilitating internal roads and cargo-handling equipment to increase speed and safety in service delivery.

The meeting, chaired by the Acting Mtwara Port Manager, Mtunze Sudi, who also serves as the Council Chairperson, directed that more efforts be made to attract investment and enhance sustainable maintenance of existing infrastructure to enable the port to handle vessels and cargo in line with international standards.

Additionally, they discussed various issues relating to work performance, employee welfare, strengthening workplace discipline, and improving the working environment to enhance productivity and efficiency at the port.

Moreover, the council commended management and staff for their continued cooperation, which has contributed to positive service delivery outcomes. It also stressed the importance of accountability, open communication, and teamwork as key pillars of sustainable success.
