KIBAHA: THE Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) Coast Region office has recovered over 1.4bn/- for the Kibaha Municipal Council, previously lost due to traders failing to pay service taxes.

The revelation was made by Ms Domina Mukama, PCCB Regional Office In charge, during a report presentation in Kibaha Municipal covering October to December 2025.

She explained that PCCB monitoring of revenue collection uncovered several issues affecting tax compliance.

“One key problem involved traders renting properties to other traders, resulting in tenants not paying service taxes as required by municipal laws and procedures,” Ms Mukama said.

She also noted that some petrol stations were selling fuel outside the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) system using containers ranging from 5 to 20 litres, which contributed to revenue losses.

The monitoring further revealed that some traders were paying only half of their required taxes or none at all, claiming that Kibaha is primarily an industrial production area rather than a sales zone.

Additionally, some traders were found to operate multiple Electronic Fiscal Devices (EFDs). Cases were also identified where investors owned factories in Kibaha but registered their industries in other regions, causing confusion over tax obligations.

Ms Mukama added that in Mkuranga District, PCCB successfully recovered 120.9bn/- in unpaid National Social Security Fund (NSSF) contributions between July and September 2025.

These funds were owed by employers on behalf of their employees and had previously gone unpaid.

Through these monitoring and recovery efforts, PCCB has reinforced compliance with tax and social security obligations, ensuring that municipal and national revenues are properly collected and managed, while addressing loopholes that previously allowed traders and investors to evade payments.

This intervention highlights the bureau’s proactive role in safeguarding public resources and enhancing accountability within local government and commercial operations.
