SONGEA: TANZANIAN Vice-President, Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi, has arrived in Songea, Ruvuma Region today, February 26, 2026, ahead of the climax of the 120th anniversary commemoration of the Majimaji War heroes.
The Vice President is expected to be the Guest of Honour at the national event scheduled for February 27, 2026, at the Majimaji Museum grounds in Songea.
Upon his arrival, the VP was received at Songea Airportby Ruvuma Regional Commissioner Brig Gen Ahmed Abbas, Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism Hamad Chande, CCM Ruvuma Regional Chairman Oddo Mwisho, alongside government leaders, religious representatives, political party officials, residents and Ngoni chiefs from South Africa, Malawi, and Tanzania.

The annual Majimaji Heroes Commemoration, held every February, honours Tanzanian freedom fighters who resisted German colonial rule during the historic Majimaji War.
This year’s landmark 120th anniversary is expected to feature vibrant cultural performances, historical exhibitions and traditional displays reflecting the rich heritage and identity of southern Tanzania communities.
