
MOROGORO: THE Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy in charge of Oil and Gas, Dr James Mataragio, has directed the Petroleum Upstream Regulatory Authority (PURA) to accelerate preliminary exploration in new oil and gas areas to attract investors and increase national revenue.
The PS made the statement today in Morogoro region during the Fifth Workers’ Council Meeting noting that the efforts will stimulate investment, expand local participation, and strengthen the implementation of the authority’s core responsibilities.
Additionally, he stressed the importance of PURA continuing to identify and develop new project areas, publicizing them to investors, and fully executing its mandates as outlined in its establishment objectives.

He further mentioned PURA’s responsibilities as overseeing and monitoring oil and gas exploration and production activities in accordance with laws and regulations, advising the government on upstream oil and gas matters, and announcing available blocks for investment to increase the discovery of these resources in the country.
He stated that the measures would help boost the contribution of the oil and gas sector to national economic growth and strengthen resource management for the benefit of Tanzanians.
