DAR ES SALAAM: THE Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Martin Chungong, has arrived in the country for an official working visit aimed at strengthening cooperation between the IPU and Tanzania.

The visit is intended to facilitate the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the IPU and the Parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania, following the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania’s decision to host the 153rd IPU Assembly, scheduled to take place in October 2026 at the Arusha International Conference Centre (AICC) in Arusha.

The signing ceremony is expected to be held on February 27, 2026, at the Parliament’s Sub-Office in Dar es Salaam.

Chungong will sign the agreement on behalf of the IPU, while the Speaker of Parliament, Mussa Azzan Zungu, will sign on behalf of the Parliament of Tanzania.

Following the ceremony, Chungong is scheduled to hold talks with the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, focusing on enhancing cooperation between Tanzania and the IPU as well as preparations for the upcoming international assembly.
