DAR ES SALAAM: THE government has said that the establishment of the National Labour Market Information System (NLMIS) demonstrates its commitment to leveraging technology to promote employment, boost productivity and stimulate national economic growth.
The remarks were made by Mr Godwin Mpelumbe, Acting Assistant Director of Employment and Skills Development in the Prime Minister’s Office – Labour, Employment and Relations, during a training session for private sector employers held yesterday in Dar es Salaam.
He said the system will enable private sector employers to access and share employment data, including job projections from various sectors.
Mr Mpelumbe explained that the user-friendly system will allow the government to collect a wide range of data, including statistics on jobs created by different groups, particularly within the private and formal sectors.
“The government has high expectations that employers will participate fully by providing accurate employment data from their respective institutions,” he said.
He added that the system is expected to enhance transparency and promote fair competition in recruitment, while strengthening collaboration between the government, employers and training institutions.
Private sector employers, for their part, commended the government through the Prime Minister’s Office – Labour, Employment and Relations for introducing the NLMIS, describing it as a major reform in the management and accessibility of reliable employment information in the country.

They noted that the system will facilitate faster access to up-to-date employment statistics, enabling organisations to make informed decisions about their human resource needs in line with labour market trends.
Salha Irando, Human Resources and Administration Manager at Power Group Technologies Tanzania Limited, said the system will significantly enhance the development of labour market strategies and plans with greater accuracy and efficiency.
Similarly, Head of Human Resources Management at Bakharesa Group, Francis Ndenje said the system will improve access to accurate and timely data, enabling institutions to align workforce planning with actual labour market trends.
He added that employment information will now be readily available and properly documented through the system.
A Senior Human Resources Officer from Amana Bank also noted that the system will help employers access data on graduates from relevant years, information that was previously difficult to obtain.
She added that employers will now be able to advertise job vacancies through the platform, making it easier to share and access data between employers and jobseekers.
