ZANZIBAR: SEA Cliff Golf Club, Zanzibar, has unveiled a free Junior Golf Training Programme, signalling both sporting ambition and institutional transformation at the island’s premier golfing destination.
The programme, open to children aged 5 – 17 years, will run every Saturday from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm on the club’s scenic course in Mangapwani, under the guidance of professional golfer Stanley Sanga.
Participation is free of charge, underlining the club’s renewed commitment to community development and grassroots sport.
Club Manager Sophie Nyanjera said the initiative forms part of a broader vision to nurture young talent while making golf more accessible to families across Zanzibar.
“This programme is about planting seeds for the future of golf in Zanzibar. We want young people to discover the sport early, develop their skills, and, most importantly, enjoy the game,” she said.
The launch of the junior programme comes as the club enters what officials describe as a transformative new chapter.
For the first time since its establishment, the club’s leadership now includes officials nominated directly by its members a groundbreaking development reflecting growing demand for more democratic and participatory governance within sporting institutions.
According to Nyanjera, the decision has been widely welcomed by members and signals a deeper commitment to transparency and inclusion.
“We are already seeing the benefits of this transformation, including the energy behind new initiatives like the junior programme.”
