
DODOMA: THE Ministry of Communication and Information Technology is set to construct a Digital Technology Institute (DTI) in Dodoma at a cost of 194.13 million US dollars, equivalent to approximately 493bn/-, to produce skilled professionals in the digital sector.
Officiating at the Ministry’s First Council Meeting in Dodoma on behalf of Minister Angellah Kairuki, Deputy Minister Dr Switbert Mkama said the government has completed land acquisition procedures for the project. He said the DTI campus will sit on 1,619,000 square metres in Nala area, Dodoma.
“The feasibility study for the institute has already been completed and preparations are progressing well,” Dr Mkama said.
He added that the Ministry of Finance has submitted a request to the Exim Bank for a concessional loan of 167.36 million UD dollars to finance construction works.
Dr Mkama urged ministry staff to work diligently to finalise the ICT and Postal Policy and to continue strengthening digital revenue systems such as Jamii Pay.

He noted that Jamii Pay is currently used to collect revenue at the Magufuli Mbezi Bus Terminal in Dar es Salaam, the Kigamboni Ferry and football stadiums nationwide.
The initiative aligns with Goal Four of the National Development Vision (NDV) 2050, which seeks to build a digitally empowered society driven by innovation and competitiveness.
Under the Vision, Tanzania targets at least 70 per cent digital literacy among citizens and aims for over 80 per cent of government services to be accessible through secure digital platforms within the next 25 years.
