MARA: Grumeti Reserves Ltd, an eco-tourism company supporting conservation and community development activities in the Serengeti ecosystem, has handed over 3,014 desks to Bunda and Serengeti districts in Mara region.
The 286m/- worth desks were handed over to 28 primary schools in the twin districts at the weekend as part of the implementation of the Special Wildlife Investment Concession Areas (SWICA) agreement between Grumeti Reserves Ltd and the Tanzania Wildlife Authority (TAWA).
A representative of Grumeti Reserves Ltd, Frida Mollel, said the company also donated other gadgets such as 21 computers, two printers, eight UPS, 24 hospital beds and supporting the water network at Bukore primary school in Serengeti District.

She said the total value of the the desks and the the bove equipment is 369m/- from the 2025 company budget.
The Grumeti Reserves Ltd-TAWA SWICA agreement covers the Grumeti-Ikorongo wildlife management area.
Speaking at the handing-over ceremony, the Bunda and Serengeti District Commisioners, Aswege Kamingoye, and Angelina Marco respectively, laid emphasis on the importance of sustainable conservation for national development.

They warned villagers living close to the Grumeti-Ikorongo game reserves against the invasion of the area since it is an important part of the Serengeti ecological system.
The area is famed for tourism attractions such as wildlife, which include the “Big Five” — lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants and buffaloes.

Grumeti Reserves Ltd, Ms Mollel said, will continue to support the government in carrying out community development projects as part of fostering sustainable tourism and wildlife conservation.
The company that owns and runs several world-class hotels has created direct and indirect job opportunities for hundreds of Tanzanians.
