DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIAN diaspora entrepreneur, Chris Lukosi, has unveiled plans for a multibillion-shilling mixed-use development known as Lukosi Village, positioning it as a long-term economic hub integrating housing, auctions, and international trade operations.
The project will include studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments, along with a limited number of high-end residences. Lukosi says the development is not intended for resale but to establish lasting generational wealth.
“I am not building to sell. I am building an empire that will remain for generations,” Lukosi said. “I lost my first house when I was young due to bank loans. That experience taught me that foundational assets should not be sold impulsively.”
Lukosi, who imports goods primarily from Europe, plans to bring in more than 100 shipping containers within a year to scale operations. He says Lukosi Village will provide accommodation for traders attending auctions and serve as short-term rental units during off-peak periods.
“We want traders to find everything in one place — housing, transport, and business,” he said. “This is an economic ecosystem, not just a building.”
The development will also include product testing and preparation facilities ahead of auctions, ensuring electronics such as televisions and laptops are displayed and verified before sale.

Urban economic analysts say mixed-use developments of this scale can stimulate growth in peri-urban areas by generating employment, tax revenue, and supporting services.
“My focus is generational wealth,” Lukosi said. “I do not want my children to restart from where I began.”
He added that contributing to national revenue and job creation is part of economic patriotism. “Every container that enters the country creates employment and tax revenue,” he said.
Construction is expected to begin in phases, with apartment units forming the first stage.
