SINGIDA: A special medical camp for the screening and treatment of heart diseases in children and adults has commenced in Singida Region, attracting a large number of residents seeking services.

The camp is being conducted through a collaboration between Benjamin Mkapa Hospital (BMH) and the Singida Regional Referral Hospital.

Speaking during the launch, Mr Rayhan Mbisso, Acting Assistant Director of Training and Mobile Services and also the head of the delegation, said the camp has brought along specialist cardiologists for both children and adults.

“We have come with heart specialists for adults and children. This provides a great opportunity for Singida residents to undergo heart screening and receive appropriate treatment. The services will run for five consecutive days starting today,” said Mr Mbisso.

On his part, Dr David Mwasota, Acting Medical Officer in Charge of Singida Regional Referral Hospital, welcomed the specialists and cardiac experts from Benjamin Mkapa Hospital.

“We publicised your arrival and the turnout on the first day is huge people are eagerly waiting for services. We expect the number of patients to increase in the coming days,” said Dr Mwasota.

Benjamin Mkapa Hospital has deployed doctors and cardiac specialists as part of its commitment to strengthening healthcare services in surrounding regions, while also marking 10 years of providing advanced medical services since its establishment.

Recently, Benjamin Mkapa Hospital (BMH) begun offering advanced non-surgical treatment for chronic back pain, known as facet injections and epidural blocks, becoming the second facility in the country—and the first in the central zone—to provide the specialised service.

Speaking on Wednesday, the hospital’s consultant Neurologist, Dr Maxgama Ndosi, said the treatment is a highly specialised procedure performed by the hospital’s own expert physicians.

“Today we have launched these services, and our specialist doctors at Benjamin Mkapa Hospital are performing them independently. We have successfully attended to the first patient, who is stable and doing well. The procedure involves specialised injections into the spine, and once administered, the patient’s back pain is completely relieved,” said Dr Ndosi.

He noted that the new treatment eliminates the burden of hospital admission for patients.

“This procedure frees patients from having to stay in the ward because it does not involve surgery. Once a patient receives the injection, they can go home on the same day,” Dr Ndosi added.

A patient (name withheld) who underwent the procedure expressed relief after receiving the treatment at the Dodoma based health facility.

“I had severe back pain that made it difficult to walk or lift things. But immediately after receiving the injection, the pain disappeared, and up to now I feel no pain at all,” the patient said.

Benjamin Mkapa Hospital, which is marking its tenth anniversary since it began operations, continues to expand its specialist and super-specialist medical services. The introduction of this advanced back pain treatment further strengthens its role as a leading referral centre in the central zone.

BMH is envisioned to be a high-tech Hospital based on new sciences for a healthy society and sustainable National development.

It’s mission is to provide specialized and super specialized promotive, preventive, curative, rehabilitative services, research, innovative and training using new technologies.
