VIENNA: THE Director of Strategy and Development at REEEP, headquartered in Vienna, James Smith, said his organization has received a grant of 5m Euros (approximately 15bn/-) to support Tanzanian companies in increasing food production, particularly in the agricultural sector through the use of renewable energy.

Smith made the remarks during talks with Tanzania’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to Vienna, Naimi Aziz, at the Tanzanian Embassy offices in Austria.

During the discussions, Smith explained that the funds were provided by the Government of Austria to enable companies and organizations in Tanzania to boost food production using renewable energy. He noted that several companies and institutions have already submitted applications to implement projects under the funding, and that REEEP is in the final stages of reviewing the applicants who will benefit.

He further stated that a team of experts from REEEP is expected to travel to Tanzania in March 2026 to complete verification procedures before the implementation of the respective projects begins.

The availability of the funds has been attributed to the sound policies of the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania and the effective implementation of economic diplomacy.

REEEP is an international organization that promotes and accelerates the adoption of clean energy in developing countries. The organization was established in 2002 following resolutions of the World Summit on Sustainable Development held in Johannesburg, South Africa.
