DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA has begun a process to obtain a drug that controls and prevents the spread of the AIDS virus, so that the drug is available and used in the country, the government’s Chief Pharmacist, Daud Msasi, said today, February 23, 2026.

Msasi said that the drug is used as a preventive and therapeutic agent at the same time, and can work in the body for six months, while a person needs to be injected with the drug twice a year, which is injected under the skin.

He added that the process of importing the drug into the country is still ongoing, to ensure that it is available on time and can be used by the citizens.

He stressed that the drug is not a vaccine, but a drug that works for a long time in the body, where, when it enters the body’s cells, it has the ability to fight the AIDS virus and prevent infection.
