TABORA: TWO hundred female students from Mole and Nyahua Secondary Schools in Sikonge District, Tabora Region, have received bicycles to ease the burden of walking more than seven kilometres to and from school, a challenge that was affecting their studies, health and ability to pursue their dreams.

The bicycles were handed over recently during a recent ceremony by the Acting District Director of Sikonge Council, Kalista Maina, who stressed the importance of the initiative in supporting education and empowering girls.

The 100 bicycles were donated by the Young Strong Mothers Foundation (YSMF).

“This is a historic moment for our district. While the government works daily to ensure every child receives quality education, YSMF has been an exceptional partner in supporting education for girls in Sikonge,” said Maina.

She urged students and community members to take good care of the bicycles so that they continue benefiting many students even after the current recipients graduate.

YSMF Founder and Director, Jackie Bomboma, said the project is part of the Girls Education and Rights Initiative (GERI), funded by the Obama Foundation through the Girls Opportunity Alliance (GOA) programme, directly benefiting 200 girls.

Jackie explained that each bicycle will be shared by two students, making it a direct investment in the girls’ education and future.

“These bicycles are a bridge to education, safety, and a better life. We want to ensure no girl drops out because of distance or other basic challenges,” she said
