DODOMA: THE Dodoma Regional Police Force and street chairpersons have agreed on joint strategies to prevent crime by addressing moral decay at the family level.
The agreement was reached recently in the capital during a meeting between the Police Force and local government leaders in Dodoma District aimed at strengthening security and public safety within communities.
Speaking at the meeting, Dodoma Municipal Community Policing Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Regina Mtana, said moral decay in society has become one of the factors contributing to criminal activities, including offences linked to drug abuse and the pursuit of wealth through illegal means.
“Communities should cooperate with the Police Force by providing information about crimes and criminals so that appropriate action can be taken against offenders. Those committing crimes are often members of the same communities; therefore, it is important to report them,” ASP Mtana said.
She urged street leaders not to turn a blind eye to criminal activities or attempt to resolve criminal cases through informal, home-based mediation, noting that such practices are against the law.

ASP Mtana also called on communities to condemn criminal behaviour and actively participate in community policing initiatives.
She encouraged local government leaders to work closely with the Police Force in mobilising patriotic young people to join community policing groups in order to enhance safety and security.
In addition, ASP Mtana urged local leaders to cooperate with ward police officers in addressing challenges posed by criminals involved in theft, burglary, robbery and gender-based violence.
Meanwhile, local government leaders commended the Police Force for recognising the importance of strengthening cooperation and solidarity in maintaining peace and security. They also urged the government to acknowledge the contribution of local leaders in delivering services to communities.
