
DODOMA: TANZANIA and the World Bank have stepped up negotiations on funding key development projects under the IDA 21 cycle, targeting faster delivery of the country’s national development priorities.
According to information availed to this journalist from the Finance Ministry, the meeting took place in Dodoma between the Permanent Secretary Dr Natu El Maamry Mwamba, representing the Minister for Finance, Ambassador Khamis Mussa Omar, and the World Bank Resident Director, Firas Raad.
The Ministry of Finance communique further noted that the two sides are now in the final stages of agreeing on a list of priority projects to be financed under IDA 21. The World Bank also expressed satisfaction with the strong cooperation and progress made in preparing and implementing projects that directly benefit citizens.
Firas Raad reaffirmed the World Bank commitment to continue working closely with Tanzania to support major development initiatives, with emphasis placed on the energy sector as a key engine of economic growth and improved public services.

He welcomed the inclusion of several energy projects in the priority list, saying they align with the World Bank goal of driving inclusive growth and improving the delivery of essential services.
Raad also pointed to strategic projects such as the Msimbazi River Basin Project in Dar es Salaam, describing it as vital for environmental protection, infrastructure improvement, and strengthening resilience against climate change impacts.
For his part, Dr Mwamba said the Government will continue to work closely with the World Bank to ensure all approved IDA 21 projects are implemented effectively, transparently, and in line with the Third National Development Plan and Vision 2050.
