
DAR ES SALAAM: HEADS of Communication and Institutional Relations Units from across the Water Sector have started a four-day strategic meeting aimed at strengthening public communication and improving citizen engagement in water service delivery.
Representing the Chief Executive Officer of the Dar es Salaam Water and Sewerage Authority (DAWASA), Director of Legal Services, Florence Yamat called on communication officers to collaborate in promoting government programmes and improving public awareness on water matters.
“The Water Sector is an important pillar of national development and economic growth. Effective communication is essential to help citizens understand their responsibilities in protecting water resources,” Yamat said.
She emphasised the need for stronger public awareness campaigns and greater community participation in conserving water resources to safeguard supplies for current and future generations.
Acting Director of Government Communication at the Ministry of Water, Florence Temba, challenged communication practitioners to maintain professionalism and accountability while improving efficiency in executing their duties.
The meeting is also focusing on the Water Sector’s role in implementing Tanzania National Development Vision 2050, including expanding access to clean and safe water, protecting water sources, strengthening institutional accountability, increasing stakeholder participation and adopting modern technologies in water resources management.
According to the Ministry of Water, the forum will help improve public understanding of government achievements in the sector while strengthening communication between water institutions and communities to enhance service delivery.
