DAR ES SALAAM: THE Parliamentary Standing Committee on Infrastructure has urged Tanzanians to develop a culture of keenly following weather forecasts issued by relevant authorities, to improve and safeguard various development activities in the country.

The call was made on March 16, 2026, in Dar es Salaam during the committee’s visit to the Tanzania Meteorological Authority as part of its oversight responsibilities.

Speaking during the visit, Committee Chairman, Seleman Kakoso, said that paying attention to weather forecasts plays a significant role in helping citizens plan and carry out their daily activities, including business, marine transport, and agriculture.

He explained that by taking such information seriously, citizens can protect themselves from potential risks associated with changing weather conditions.

“By following weather forecasts, you gain a clear understanding of the environment surrounding your activities, whether in business, marine transport, or agriculture,” said Kakoso.

He further noted that some Tanzanians still tend to ignore important warnings, especially those related to heavy rains, which at times leads to avoidable damage that could have been prevented through early precautions.

On his part, the Director General of the Tanzania Meteorological Authority, Ladislaus Chang’a, thanked the government for strengthening the institution, including increasing the number of staff from 532 in 2022 to 618 in 2026.

He said the increase in personnel will enhance efficiency in delivering weather forecasting services, enabling citizens to access accurate and timely information.
