DODOMA: MINISTER for Works Abdallah Ulega has officially announced six strategic road projects across the country for which, the government has invited private investors under a Public–Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement.

Speaking in the National Assembly in Dodoma on Monday, Mr Ulega said the Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) had already issued an official notice inviting investors to participate in the development of the projects.

“I would like to inform your august House that the government under the leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s agenda to open up the country, it will ensure that no one is left behind,” Mr Ulega said.

“On June 19, 2026 (Friday), we published official advertisements in various media outlets, including the ‘Daily News’, inviting partners, so that we can now begin the construction of these roads,” he added.

According to the minister, the PPP projects include the Morogoro–Dodoma highway, which is 260 kilometres long and will be constructed as a four-lane road.

He said the Morogoro– Dodoma corridor is strategic because it connects the country’s commercial capital, Dar es Salaam, with the administrative capital, Dodoma, and carries a high volume of traffic.

The actual length of the road is 246 km. Another project under the plan is the Chalinze–Segera– Tanga road, which is important for linking the Northern Corridor to the Port of Tanga.

The TANROADS announcement further includes the Handeni–Kiberashi– Chemba–Kwamtoro–Singida road, which is 384 km long. This route will connect the Port of Tanga with inland regions that lack direct access to a seaport.

Another strategic project is the Kitonga bypass section in Iringa Region, which will be 27 km long. It is intended to improve safety and ease traffic flow in the well-known Kitonga area.

In addition, road users travelling from Dar es Salaam city centre to Julius Nyerere International Airport will benefit from a proposed 10 km expressway linking the two points.
