GEITA: THE Tanzanian government has allocated 500m/- for the expansion of Nyanguku Dispensary in Geita Municipal Council to enable it to attain the status of a ward health center.

Geita Regional Commissioner, Mr Martine Shigela, revealed it today, June 24, 2026, after his recent  inspection of the facility’s progress as part of his tour within Geita Municipal Council.

He said the government’s objective is to ensure that the health center serves approximately 50,000 residents of the ward and neighboring areas, thereby reducing the need for people to seek medical services in Geita town.

Mr Shigela expressed satisfaction with the progress of the project and instructed healthcare providers to adhere to government policies and guidelines, including the provision of free healthcare services for pregnant women and children.

“The government’s directive is that pregnancy is not an illness; it is a blessing, a gift, and a sign of development.

“Therefore, antenatal care services for pregnant women and healthcare services for children under five years of age must be provided free of charge,” he said.

The Officer in Charge of Nyanguku Dispensary, Dr. Fredrick Mugarula, said the expansion project officially commenced in December 2025 after the facility received 500m/-from internally generated revenue.

He added that the project has reached 89 percent completion and has so far cost 374m/-, while the remaining 125m/-  is being used to cover various completion-related expenses.

Nyanguku Ward Councilor, Mr Elias Ngole, acknowledged that the health center will improve healthcare services in the area and appealed to the government to assist in upgrading the main road infrastructure leading to Nyang’hwale.
