
DAR ES SALAAM: IT is now confirmed that Tanzania will field two drivers; Ahmed Huwel and Manvir Birdi in a title chase for the third round of this year’s African Rally Championship(ARC) underway in Rwanda.
Previously it was only Huwel from Mkwawa Rally team who had tabled his participation banking on his ultramodern Toyota Yaris GR, before Manvir joined him as Asas Rally team member.
This time around, Manvir will be powering a new car; Skoda Fabia R5, one of the fastest machines in the wheeling business.
Both Huwel and Birdi will be engaged in the race in RC 2 category.
According to the list released by the organizers, Rwanda Motorsports body, Huwel will be 9th off ramp while Birdi will flagged off at the 10th position.
Speaking on their preparations for their Mountain Gorilla Rally conquest, Rahim Suleiman who navigates Ahmed Huwel told the Daily News that they expect to start their long journey to Rwanda on July 3, 2026 while drivers will fly there on July 9, 2026, ahead of the event’s official flag off on July 12 this year.
“Everything is in place. We hope to stage a stellar performance in this round after failing to finish the second round held in Uganda in May this year,” he stated.
Rwanda’s Mountain Gorilla Rally is the third round of this year’s African Rally Championship series after the earlier two rounds in Kenya and Uganda.

Tanzania will host the fourth round in Morogoro in September this year.
