LUSAKA: TANZANIAN golfers produced a strong showing at the Zambia Ladies Amateur Open Strokeplay Championship at Lusaka Golf Club, with three players securing top-10 finishes in a field of more than 120 competitors from across Southern and Eastern Africa.

Neema Olomi led Tanzania’s challenge after finishing fourth on 257 (+38), while Ayne Magombe placed sixth on 264 (+45). Loveness Frank Mungure completed the country’s top performances in eighth place on 268 (+49).

Former Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU) honorary secretary Yasmin Chali also impressed with a top30 finish.

Zambia’s Annie Nsama won the title on 241 (+22), seven shots ahead of Kenya’s Mercy Nyanchama, who finished second on 248 (+29). Uganda’s Peace Kabasweka took third place on 251 (+31).

TLGU president Timea Chogo praised the Tanzanian contingent for their performances at what she described as one of the region’s most competitive amateur tournaments.

“Special congratulations to Neema, Ayne and Loveness for securing three top-10 finishes and representing Tanzania well,” Chogo said.

She also commended Chali for her commitment and performance, adding: “We are proud of our golfers and must continue building on this momentum.”

Tanzania competed without one of its leading amateur golfers, Madina Iddi, who missed the championship because of financial constraints and a demanding tournament schedule.

Iddi won the event in 2025 at Ndola Golf Club after recording rounds of 77, 75 and 76 for a total score of 228. Despite her absence, Tanzania’s representatives still delivered a competitive performance against a strong regional field.
