DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU) has unveiled its 2026–2030 Presidential Vision and Strategic Plan, alongside the official launch of The Lady President’s Golf Cup 2026, the Union’s flagship championship scheduled for 10–11 July 2026 at Lugalo Golf Club in Dar es Salaam.

Under the theme “Drive It. Tee the Future.”, the initiative marks a transformative phase for women’s golf in Tanzania, extending beyond competition to include youth development, leadership, education, governance and international competitiveness.

The strategy aims to position Tanzania as a premier African destination for women’s golf, combining sporting excellence with empowerment and creating pathways from junior golf to national representation and leadership. TLGU’s mission is to grow women’s golf through structured junior pathways, elevate players to regional and continental competition and use golf as a platform for education, leadership and lifelong achievement. TLGU President Timea Chogo said: “We are building more than tournaments we are building a future where every girl has a pathway from school to golf, to national representation and into leadership. The Lady President’s Golf Cup is a symbol of that future.” With 18 years of senior leadership experience across global companies, Chogo is positioning TLGU as a platform for both competitive excellence and women’s empowerment.

TLGU’s strategy is anchored on three pillars including the Victory Path focuses on elite performance, national teams, WAGR integration, regional and continental competition and a national ranking system.

The Eagle Initiative drives junior development through schools and SNAG Golf, expanding access and growing junior participation from over 300 to 1,000 girls, including 200 new junior participants over the strategy period. Beyond the Fairway focuses on leadership, mentorship, scholarships, career development and professional networks to support lifelong success.

The strategy will be delivered through three key events namely, the Lady President’s Cup (10–11 July) will serve as a WAGR-sanctioned elite competition. The Tanzania Ladies Open in August will host players from across Africa, creating a continental platform for competition and connection.

The Junior Championship in November will focus on youth development. Together, these events develop talent from junior level to international competition. BLANQ Advertising Network is the title sponsor and strategic partner for 2026– 2028, supporting a multi-year growth plan.

The tournament will expand from a twoday format in 2026 to a three-day event from 2027, with increased East African and continental participation, positioning Tanzania as a leading destination for women’s amateur golf. BLANQ Founder Amin Swai said: “This partnership is an investment in a movement.

By Years 2 and 3, we expect the Cup to attract top players across Africa, positioning Tanzania as a premier golf destination.” TLGU aims to grow membership from 110 to more than 150 women, launch three annual flagship championships, establish junior programmes in Dar es Salaam and Arusha, register more than 20 junior girls, formalise governance structures and send a national team to international competition for the first time.

The initiative also supports Tanzania’s bid to host the East and Central African Amateur Championship in 2029. Beyond 2026 plans include expanding junior golf nationwide, introducing school golf programmes, developing scholarships, increasing regional participation and hosting internationally recognised tournaments while positioning Tanzania among Africa’s leading women’s golf nations.

Lady President’s Golf Cup 2026 Experience will bring together amateur golfers, juniors, executives, government leaders and business stakeholders in a celebration of excellence, leadership and opportunity.

The event will feature an immersive leadership experience through the Leadership Fairway, where each hole represents a stage of leadership development.

Additional experiences will include a Leadership Lounge, live podcasts, mentorship sessions, networking events, sponsor activations and premium hospitality designed to position the tournament among East Africa’s premier women’s sporting events.
