DODOMA: BENJAMIN Mkapa Hospital (BMH) has unveiled plans to become an internationally competitive referral hospital by promoting medical tourism, expanding specialised and super-specialised healthcare services and strengthening international partnerships.
The hospital’s Executive Director, Prof Abel Makubi, outlined the vision during an orientation programme for the newly appointed BMH Board of Trustees in Dodoma, saying the hospital’s next phase of growth will build on achievements made over the past decade.
Prof Makubi said BMH has made significant progress since its establishment 10 years ago, introducing 20 specialised and 17 super-specialised medical services.
“The new Board has a responsibility to build on the achievements realised over the past decade and position BMH among internationally recognised referral hospitals,” he said.
He said the hospital also plans to establish a medical village in partnership with the University of Dodoma (UDOM) while strengthening collaboration with international institutions to improve healthcare services and attract patients from within and outside the country.
Prof Makubi added that the hospital will continue implementing its strategic goals in line with President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s 4Rs philosophy of Reconciliation, Resilience, Reforms and Rebuilding.
Chairman of the BMH Board of Trustees, Prof Edward Hosea, said the hospital’s recent recognition by the Office of the Treasury Registrar as one of the country’s bestperforming public institutions reflects the commitment of its leadership and staff.
He said the achievement should inspire the hospital to strengthen innovation, build staff capacity and maintain high standards of service delivery as it works towards becoming a regional healthcare hub.
Recently, the Office of the Treasury Registrar recognised BMH as the country’s leading noncommercial public institution in service delivery during a ceremony at which public institutions presented dividends and contributions to President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
Representing the Treasury Registrar, Ms Neema Msomba said the office would continue supporting the Board and management while overseeing the government’s investment in the hospital to ensure it continues delivering quality healthcare services to Tanzanians.
