KAGERA: RESIDENTS of Bukoba Municipality have commended President Samia Suluhu Hassan for spearheading development projects that are improving health, education and infrastructure.

The praise follows the reopening of the old Bukoba bus terminal, one of the projects being implemented under the Tanzania Cities Transforming Infrastructure and Competitiveness (TACTIC) programme. The terminal will serve commuter minibuses operating on various routes across Kagera Region

A trader at Kashai Ward, Mr Deogratias Bin’Omukama (54), said the upgraded terminal will stimulate economic activities while improving transport services.

“For many years residents faced difficulties because the old terminal was outdated and became inaccessible during the rainy season. We thank President Samia for her efforts in improving health, education and infrastructure,” he said.

On December 16, 2023, the then Minister of State in the President’s Office (Regional Administration and Local Government), Mr Mohamed Mchengerwa, witnessed the signing of contracts for the 410-million-US-dollar TACTIC programme to modernise 15 municipalities and cities across the country.

The event was held in Bukoba Municipality. Meanwhile, Bukoba District Commissioner Erasto Sima commended the World Bank for financing the programme, saying it will transform the municipality’s economy.

“The implementation of the TACTIC programme is a major milestone for the region. Residents should seize the opportunities created by these investments, including establishing modern hotels with conference facilities,” he said.
