SALIMA: THE 28th Ministerial Committee Meeting of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation concluded today, July 18, 2026, with member states urged to implement the resolutions adopted to strengthen peace, security and stability across the SADC region.
The meeting was held in two phases, beginning with a session of Permanent Secretaries on July 13–14, followed by the Ministerial session on July 16–17, 2026. Discussions focused on regional security challenges, political cooperation and measures to enhance peace and stability within the bloc.
As one of the founding members of SADC, Tanzania actively participated in both sessions. At the ministerial level, the country’s delegation was led by Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, James Millya, accompanied by Deputy Minister for Home Affairs, Ayoub Mohammed Mahmoud.

At the Permanent Secretaries’ level, Tanzania was represented by the Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Said Shaib Mussa, and the Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Dr Maduhu Kazi.
The Tanzanian delegation also included representatives from the country’s defence and security agencies, underscoring the government’s commitment to peace and security, both nationally and across the wider SADC region.
Participants emphasized that maintaining peace, security and stability in Southern Africa requires close cooperation and solidarity among member states to collectively address the region’s evolving security challenges.
