DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA has officially launched direct Air Tanzania flights between Dar es Salaam and Muscat, positioning Oman as a strategic tourism market as the country moves to expand international connectivity, attract more visitors and strengthen trade and investment ties.
Speaking during the Tanzania–Oman Tourism Forum on July 26, 2026,Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Hamad Hassan Chande, said the new air link reflects the government’s commitment to opening up Tanzania to global markets through improved air transport connections.
He said the initiative is aligned with President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s vision of increasing Tanzania’s presence in international tourism and investment markets.
“The launch of these flights will stimulate growth in tourism, trade and investment between the two countries as Tanzania works towards achieving its target of attracting eight million international tourists by 2030,” Mr Chande said.
Tourism remains one of Tanzania’s key foreign exchange earners, with the country recording 2,294,495 international visitors and 3,610,960 domestic tourists in 2025, generating US dollars 4.4 billion in tourism earnings.

Mr Chande said Tanzania received 15,111 visitors from Oman in 2025, a number expected to rise significantly following the introduction of direct flights between the two destinations.
He emphasised that Tanzania’s engagement with Oman goes beyond attracting tourists, saying the country seeks to build a long-term strategic partnership that delivers shared benefits to citizens of both nations.
“Tanzania is not coming to Oman only to seek tourists, but to build a strategic partnership that will create lasting benefits for the people of both countries,” he said.
The direct route is expected to enhance people-to-people connections, facilitate business travel and create new opportunities for investors while strengthening historical and economic relations between Tanzania and Oman.
